The Opening: Networking, competition and the next generation of television.
Sybille von Obernitz, Berlin’s new Senator for Economics, Technology and Research, will officially open the Media Convention on Monday morning. The theme in the subsequent opening round will concentrate on networking, competition and the next generation of television. Podium discussion members include Dagmar Reim, currently serving her third term as rbb director general, ZDF’s new director of programming, Dr. Norbert Himmler, Claire Tavernier, Senior Executive Vice President for FMX and Worldwide Drama at Fremantle Media, Marcel Düe, founder of the Berlin-based startup Tweek, and many more. Host and moderator will be Frank Thomsen, editor-in-chief of stern.de. This year’s opening theme will be examined even further in the afternoon under the heading "New Social TV." The trend these days is to watch TV on your tablet while simultaneously twittering, facebooking and talking to friends about what you’re watching. Such user behavior begs the following question: Is this trend going to become stronger and is the "Second Screen" set to become increasingly important?
