The “No-Cost Generation”: How to Attract and Deal with These Users

In our era of social media and smartphones, the motion-picture industry is under increasing pressure to develop new marketing and communication models in order to reach audiences. Indeed, it is no longer possible or even advisable for the film industry to avoid Google, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube in its quest to attract and maintain viewers. Millions of people continue to click on these sites, where they can “tweet,” “share” and “like.” On the other hand, however, it is no longer merely the number of clicks alone that determines the success and/or failure of products and services. For film-savvy audiences, the measure of all things in the future will depend much less on the number of clicks and much more on “quality time for quality products.”

In this section, filmmakers, producers and social media experts will discuss a number of issues relating to social media, including how the industry is reacting to these fundamental changes, which concepts, advertising forms and business models are being developed and what we can already learn from the most recent experiences.
