The MEDIENWOCHE@IFA 2011 gets underway tomorrow!
The 2011 MEDIENWOCHE@IFA, which gets underway tomorrow and lasts until September 8, will once again attract an international audience to Berlin. The IFA (September 2-7, 2011), the world’s largest consumer electronics trade fair, will feature all the latest developments in that industry. At the International Media Congress (September 5-6, 2011), leading minds drawn from the media and content industries will join together with representatives of the worlds of electronics, the digital avant-garde and science and politics at the ICC. On September 8, 2011, Europe’s leading journalists will gather at the M100 Sanssouci Colloquium.
- Digital is Now! The International Media Congress featuring 180 speakers and 70 keynotes, podium discussions and presentations; double-digit percentage growth in the number of accreditations!
- Yet another record year for the IFA with 4% growth!
This year will mark the fourth year in a row that the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and the German Association of Consumer and Communications Electronics (gfu) – which also organizes the IFA – have joined together to offer the leading joint event program of the MEDIENWOCHE@IFA.
Content Meets Technology: As Medienboard managing director Elmar Giglinger, organizer of the Media Congress, notes: “This combination of congress and trade fair allows the Medienwoche to provide an extremely high user value, seeing as it offers a compact overview of all the latest content and technologies and covers all current media and Internet policy discussions.” He continues: “Convergent thinking has been at the core of the congress since the very beginning. In 2011, our goal is to take an even more visionary and international approach, to devote ourselves even more to the strong start-up scene in the capital region, and to give even more space to science and innovation. This unique mix fits Berlin perfectly. And it’s great to see the success of our new approach reflected in this year’s registration and accreditation numbers, which show a double-digit percentage increase over last year.”
Opening keynote addresses at the Media Congress will be given by Bernd Neumann, Germany’s Minister of State for Culture, and Mathias Döpfner, CEO of Axel Springer AG. Other prominent speakers include WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange (live via satellite), producer and actor Til Schweiger, TV host Jörg Pilawa, producer Martin Moszkowicz, Brainpool managing director Jörg Grabosch, media researcher William Uricchio from MIT Boston, David Rowan, editor-in-chief of Wired Magazine UK and Groupon Central Europe head Daniel P. Glasner.
The Medienboard and the gfu have cooperated closely on creating an effective program schedule since 2008, and their efforts will be continued this year. As Alexander Pett, managing director of the IFA organizer gfu, notes: “By focusing on all of the major issues facing the media industry and the entire value chain today, our comprehensive program schedule makes the International Media Congress the perfect complement to the IFA. In 2011, the medienpolitik@IFA discussion roundtables organized by the gfu once again form an integral part of the congress at the ICC, which will be held this year under the heading “Digitalization 2.0.” We are delighted to be able to continue our cooperative activities and to once again offer an entirely attractive congress schedule consisting of conferences, podium discussions and keynote speeches focusing on different perspectives from the worlds of media policy, content and consumer electronics.”
Tickets for the MEDIENWOCHE@IFA give visitors direct access to the IFA, which in 2011 is enjoying yet another record year with a 4% growth in exhibition space and a further expansion of its leading global position. “The IFA offers a level of innovations that has never been seen before,” says IFA director Jens Heithecker. “In addition, the Media Congress offers visitors and media representatives a highly attractive conference that is perfectly coordinated in terms of content and scheduling. We are delighted to be able to invite everyone to join us once again this year on a fascinating journey of discovery into all the latest technology, innovations and world premieres!”
