International Media Congress Comes to a Successful Close

The International Media Congress (September 5-6, 2011), which takes place every year during the MEDIENWOCHE@IFA and is organized by the Medienboard und gfu, came to a successful close on Tuesday evening. With roughly 3,000 tradeshow visitors, this year’s event saw an increase in participation of more than 30 percent over the previous year.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange spoke this morning via satellite link before an audience gathered at the International Media Conference in Berlin. His keynote address and subsequent interview on the subject of “The Future of Digital Publicity, Transparency and What It Means for the World” took place against the backdrop of last week’s events, which saw Britain’s Guardian newspaper and then Wikileaks itself disclose the sources of the secret U.S.
